Kashmiri a language without official patronage

Kashmiri a language without official patronage

KASHMIRI LANGUAGE has a long history behind its back, it is said that the language is as old as the hills surrounded by the beautiful valley. Almost all of the historians are of this opinion that Kashmiri language arose some five thousands years before when the primitive civilizations, were emerging as a sign of socio-cultural order in thr early days of Naga worship.

During various times some rare documents came into the picture. This intensified the socio-political images of kashmir history. Rajtarangini by Kalhan pandit is providing a full picture of both political and lingual historiography of kashmir after Nikmatapurana both written documents have analysed almost all the issues realated to socio-cultural and political aspects of kashmir region. We find various clues regarding the typical origin of kashmiri language. It is really pathetic that our lingual potential has lacked its broad based volume and treasure of terminology, which has deep sight of cultural heritage and meaningful atmosphere behind its thread.

If we go deep in sight we realise that during the first available period of Hindu kingship Kashmiri Language was fully patronized and even privileged by the Rulers of the time. Especially during the Rule of Raja Parvarasana, Raja Awantivarman, Kashmiri though not in official seat, but it was relocating the common masses towards the Indispensability of its socio-lingual credentials.

During the mighty Hindu reign Kashmiri language was endorsing its frequency and imaginations from tooth to nail but remained unsuccessful due to the dominating attitudes of sanskrit language as being the official organ of lingual set up. It is unfortunate that during the Reign of kingship kashmir remained passive in projecting its Kashmiri language over the floor of governance, since ni body reconciled its inherited culture towards the leading parameters as being envisaged for Sanskrit and other official languages of the order.

During the mediaeval period when first Muslim Rule came into Vogue and popularized as its floor of seat as Shah mir dynasty, remained again disproportionate towards the importance of kashmiri language. They again flourished persian language instead of native Kashmiri language, though being emerged as the most convenient and commendable language of its masses. It pushed back Kashmiri language and exploited its lingual and liberal sprit in two different ways. By jeopardizing its Kashmiri skill in literal manner and by making the native language as an degraded one in front of its own people while endorsing Persian and Arabic as the cout language of the day. But even then we see that Kashmiri language tried its best to accelerate its might in front of the language Anarchy as administrated by the muslim rulers in light of Persian and Arabic languages.

It is an admired fact that the most popular king of sultanate period zain ul Abdin well known as Budshah, who enjoyed the power of the region for near about a half of century, remained very positive and punctual towards the socio-cultural skill and sprits of Kashmiri language, it is said that apart from other qualifications towards native language, the great sultan was himself quenching his creative thirst by writing Kashmiri verses with a typical zeal and joy. It is said that Budshah pinpointed his poetry under the poetic name knot as 'Qatibi' meaning friend of God.

Badshah established a Translation Bureau, trough which some four to five languages intermitted their thread bare and skill to each other. Some classic literal works were translated into kashmir viz a viz to Arabic, Sanskrit, Persian. It is said that Yousuf Zulaikha was translated into Kashmiri languages in this period. This period was golden period in the history of Kashmiri language. After the reign to Badshah Kashmiri language again lost its existence when most of the rulers remained involved in the political conflicts, which again involved Kashmiri language and affected its both official and literal harmony. This shambled climate remained altogether in Vogue from chak, mughal, pathan, sikh and even in dogra days. We see that all Kashmir historiographies were written in either Persian or in sanskrit languages.

Here the atmosphere became conducive when in 1931 kashmir politics became more realistic and vibrant and apart from political adventures Kashmiri writers came int the front and some progressive poets like Azad, , Nadim, Naz and them Kamil, Rahi, Fani, Arif Farak inspired peasants and down trodden people regarding the socio-economic anarchy of the society. Here Kashmiri language became the most predominant and attractive voice which gave vent to the feelings of common Kashmiri especially the proletarian sect of the society.

Sheikh Mohammad abdullah the leading political activist involved Mahjoor directly in the political scenes and by virtue of Mahjoor he tried his best to awaken the hidden and frozen intentions of Kashmiri people. Sheikh due to his political sight not only attracted Muslim political leaders towards the Quit Kashmir Movement, but marganized even Pandits and Dogras when he declared the indigenous broad based slogan "Hindu Muslim sikh ithaad" Which was already penetrated in the scattered Kashmir society by the early fore founder leaders of the QKM like Abdul Qadeer khan and then at the later stage by Maharaja Hari singh and Ram chand kock and Jia Ial. But again Kashmiri language remained under suppression.

In the 21st century the jammu and Kashmir board of school education has made Kashmiri subject compulsory till class 10th. And it is also as subject in higher classes. Many students have done research in this subject. After the removing of article 370 and 35a , Kashmiri was made one of the 5 official language of jammu and Kashmir
