Need for Moral Education

Need for Moral Education

Education means all round development i.e, mental, physical emotional Spitual development. Out of all these components of education. One of the most important is moral education. Besides having a definite role in different aspects of life, moral education Plays an important role in character building of an individual, Moral education can simply be defined as an inner desire or feeling that encourages a person to perform well and prevents or hinders him from doing wrong.

Nowadays conditions are altogether different. Man is involved in the desire for acquisition and accumulation system and obviously our own negligence and Selfishness are dragging us towards a dark valley where we are losing our moral education. Parents do not have time for their children to educate them on moral values. Even they do not fell. that their children should be morally sound. Results are also quite appalling. Children are committing immoral and indecent acts. in front of their parents and parents become multi-spectators.

Drug addiction, consumption of alcohol, flesh trade, corruption, dowry deaths and a lot many such evils are growing in our society day by day with an alarming speed. If we introspect about the lack of moral education is the main factor responsible for moral degradation and ethical deviation. One of the basic reasons for declining moral value. in our society is the cultural invasion by the West (westernization). Unfortunately we have taken it for granted that westernization means modernization .

Western people have left no stone unturned and fabricated countless philosophies to undermine morality. For example morality is a restriction, a restriant in the way of one's enjoying full freedom and because of this, one falls an easy prey to psychic maladies, mental Rustration and nervous agitation morality is a heavy burden of man's dark past which humanity is still carrying on its shoulders unconsciously only on the basis of blind pursuit and stagnation.

Due to the materialistic approach and liberal culture, western people are unable to understand the importance of ethics.Islam lays a great emphasis on morals, since it is the only basis of internal purity of an individual. (It is only morality and moral education that draws the attention of a human being personally and individually, society and entire humanity, in such a situation when consciously or unconsciously we are losing our moral values and the need is that on priority basis both at individual level as well as collective level, efforts should be made to inculcate moral values in our society). Moral education is the need of all times. Not only government, but every individual at his own level has a role to play In this regard. I am especially Refferring to teachers who have an important role to play in inculcating moral values at school, college and at university level. We are all accountable and answerable before our future generation.

I would like to end-up my topic by the verses of a British naturalist Charles Robert Drawin who writes in his book "the descent of man" (1871) that "the highest possible stage in moral culture is when we recognize,to control our thoughts". Thus it is the need of the hour to make our people aware of the wealth called morality without which we can not humanize the world."
