4,200 Lecturer Posts Vacant in J&K School Education Dept; 1,600 to Be Filled by July 15

Srinagar, June 30 (KNO):
In Jammu and Kashmir, at least 4,200 lecturer posts are currently vacant in the School Education Department, raising serious concerns about the quality of education in government-run secondary schools.

According to the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), during a review meeting chaired by Education Minister Sakina Itoo, it was revealed that out of a total sanctioned strength of 10,330 lecturer posts, only 6,130 are currently filled.

Official documents confirm the vacancy of 4,200 posts. Of these, 594 posts have already been referred to the Public Service Commission (PSC) for direct recruitment. Additionally, the process to fill posts under the promotion quota is ongoing.

The department further stated that placement proposals for eligible PG Masters and Teachers as in-charge lecturers in various subjects are being finalized and will soon be submitted to the competent authorities.

The department assured that around 1,600 vacant lecturer posts will be filled in OPG (Own Pay Grade) mode by July 15, 2025, focusing on major subjects. The remaining posts are expected to be filled by July 31, 2025.

In addition, the department informed that proposals to refer 727 non-teaching staff posts and 43 MTS (Multi-Tasking Staff) posts to the JKSSB have been submitted to the Finance Department for financial clearance.

It is also noted that the vacant General Line Teacher posts remain frozen as per the decision made by the State Administrative Council (SAC) in 2018.
